ORIGIN OF U.S. LAW

European law follows Justinian law which is derived from Roman law, but the US law follows the common law which is the common and natural law of the United Kingdom[i] Common law goes back to Greek times. Sophocles Antigone was the first time people questioned the King’s law and said that God’s l;aw (Zeus in those days) overrode the King’s law.   Natural law was higher than the king’s law.    Natural law is the law of the Gods or God.  Our founders were devout Christians and they firmly believed in Christian principles laid out in the Bible. They felt that all children should be educated in the Bible’s teachings.  The very first act of the U.S. Congress in 1789 was to provide Benjamin Franklin an order for 30,000 Bibles so that one could be placed in every school house in America. He took the order and it was done.   This is in sharp contrast to the modern progressives that want God and the Bible to be removed from all school and public discourse.   Their idea is that the state is the supreme authority not God so the references to God need to be removed from public discourse.  This violates every principle that this nation was founded upon. Virtually, all the founders were devout Christians. The early immigrants fled Europe so that they could have religious freedom in this country.
